Where can I donate an electric wheelchair?  If you’ve recently upgraded your ride and you don’t know what to do with your old electric wheelchair, you may have considered donating it so someone else who needs one but may not have the means, can get one.

If that’s the direction your line of thinking has headed in, you’re in luck!  There are a number of organizations dedicated to matching donated wheelchairs (both powered and manual) with people who need them.  Here are some of the best:

The Disabled Veteran’s National Foundation

A great organization that accepts both monetary donations and donated DME (Durable Medical Equipment), including wheelchairs.  If you want to help a veteran, this is a great way to do it!

The Free Wheelchair Mission

This organization is faith-based, and its main focus is providing wheelchairs to people with disabilities who live in poor countries around the world.  Needless to say, people in developing countries have a very difficult time sourcing and affording electric wheelchairs, which means that your donation would make a huge difference in someone’s life.

Advocates For World Health

Located in the state of Florida, the Advocates for World Health have a global reach and provide a wide range of donated medical equipment to individuals in need from around the world.  No matter where you live, they’ll arrange free pickup and get your old chair to an individual in need.

The Wheelchair Foundation

Another nonprofit organization with a global reach.  Although they donate to anyone, they specialize in meeting the needs of deserving teens and children.  A great organization and a great place to donate your old chair.

Wheels of Mercy

This organization was founded by Charles Monson, who is in a wheelchair himself.  Since the accident that paralyzed him, he has dedicated his life to patient advocacy and has made it his mission to see to it that any disabled individual who needs a wheelchair or other mobility aid, can get one.  A fantastic organization with a personal touch, this is a great foundation to donate to.

There are plenty of other worthy organizations to consider, but we regard these as being the best of the best.
